Invitation Workshop international : Présentation des premiers résultats du chantier sur la « nouvelle classification des forêts tropicales », le 23 octobre 2024
Ce chantier, débuté fin 2023 est conduit par le consortium CIRAD/CIFOR/CNRS/IRD/ECOFOR, et s'étendra jusqu'en juin 2025
Le règlement européen relatif à la mise à disposition sur le marché de l’Union et à l’exportation à partir de l’Union de certains produits de base et produits associés à la déforestation et à la dégradation des forêts (RDUE), entré en vigueur en juin 2023, nécessite de mobiliser des connaissances pour sa mise en œuvre. La révision possible de ce règlement après deux ans amène à réfléchir sur des points tels que la définition des forêts ou de la dégradation forestière.
Dans ce contexte, l’Unité Propre de Recherche « Forêt et Sociétés » du département Environnement et Société du CIRAD coordonne depuis juillet 2023 un projet d’« Elaboration d’un nouveau cadre d’analyse de la classification des forêts tropicales par une prise en compte de leur diversité écologique et de leur dégradation – cas d’étude au Cameroun et au Brésil », financé par l’AFD dans le cadre du CST-Forêt.
L’objectif de ce projet est d’affiner la caractérisation des forêts en connectant cette définition à une classification écologique des forêts, permettant de distinguer des forêts arborées intactes ou peu perturbées de forêts très dégradées. La recherche porte sur un cas d’étude couvrant une large diversité de forêts tropicales humides et sèches : le Brésil.
Le consortium du projet a le plaisir de vous inviter à un atelier de présentation des résultats de ce projet.
L’atelier aura lieu le 23 octobre 2024, de 15h à 17h (CET) à Paris.
Il se tiendra sous format présentiel/distanciel.

The European Deforestation-free Regulation which came into force in June 2023, aims to prohibit the placing on the European market or export from it of products associated with deforestation or forest degradation since 31 December 2020. This regulation requires knowledge for its implementation. The possible revision of this regulation after two years leads us to reflect on topics such as the definition of forests or forest degradation.
In this context, the “Forest and Societies” research unit from the CIRAD Environment and Society department has been coordinating a project on the “Development of a method to classify tropical forests by considering their ecological diversity and degradation – Case studies in Brazil and Cameroon”. This project is funded by the Agence Française de Développement in the framework of the CST-Forêt.
The aim of this project is therefore to refine the characterisation of forests by linking their definition to an ecological classification of forests that would make it possible to distinguish undisturbed or little disturbed tree forests from highly degraded forests. The research focuses on a case study covering a wide range of tropical wet and dry forests: Brazil.

The workshop will take place on October 23rd 2024 from 3 pm to 6 pm (CET), in Paris.
It will be held in a face-to-face format in Paris, and in a remote format as well by videoconferencing.
